The Challenge
LichtBlick, with over 600,000 customers, is Germany´s largest independent energy provider. The company, which is expanding, places great emphasis on the production of clean energy and the provision of unbeatable customer service. The company was looking for an innovative, customized solution for a open intranet to facilitate internal communication. The organisation wanted to use the intranet solution to improve internal communication, centralise knowledge management and to facilitate improved links between employees.
The Solution
The detailed requirements and the structure of the new system were developed in a series of workshops involving the corporate communications staff, IT specialists and the departments within the organisation. These workshops demonstrated the interest in an open and linked communications solution, which should reflect the company culture and increase interaction. The system was therefore based more on the social network platforms such as Facebook or Xing with linking and communications options rather than the somewhat dated Wiki concept. Avonis produced a proposal based on the upcoming website re-launch and implemented the agreed program using Atlassian Confluence. The services provided also extended to integrating various existing data sources from a number of locations in the system.
The Result
The new system, with various functions and all of the content, which had previously been spread over a number of existing systems, went live on schedule. More than 600 LichtBlick employees work every day with the new social intranet, exchange views on projects, take part in discussion in virtual meeting rooms and can communicate with other employees much as they would in other social media platforms. The project rooms are administered by so-called „Lighthouses“ – the responsible editors. The new system is proving to be highly successful with regard to internal communication. The system has become the hub for internal communication and has removed the necessity for endless internal emails. Even in the short space of time since its introduction, the new intranet has become the main research tool within the organisation.
